Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)

This duty program allows for duty free status for certain products imported from the 140 countries that have been designated as less developed. This program was designed to help boost the economies of these countries. There are approximately 4,284 products that can be imported free of duty.

The following products are NOT eligible:
  • Footwear
  • Textiles
  • Carpets
  • Watches
  • Some small electronics
  • Certain glass and steel products.

GSP UPDATE 12/30/2009

GSP has been extended for 1 year with the following changes:

Croatia & Equtorial Guinea will be removed Jan. 1, 2011

Cape verde will be removed effective Jan 1, 2010

Maldives has been re-designated as a beneficiary country
