Labor Lock-out at West Coast Ports(6)

October 7, 2002 3:33 PM

Earlier today, President Bush signed an executive order that creates a board of inquiry that will study the shutdown. This is the mandatory first step of government intervention.

It is likely that Washington will be forced to take further actions, should a resolution not be reached sometime soon. Perishable shipments are beginning to spoil, and many warehouse operators are starting to lay off workers. Some major carriers have stopped accepting cargo bound for the west coast.

Some industry sources report that for each day the port remains closed, it will take 4 days to clear the back-log of containers.

Please check back often for update on this situation..
